BOOKBIRD SCULPTURES
I initially created Bookbirds to enliven an imposing corridor leading to the Children's Room at St. Louis Central Library. A second flock was commissioned for the Children's Room itself. They range in size from 18 inches in width to 4 feet. Each is suspended by 3 tiny cables so their hanging positions can easily be tweaked on site.

I made 24 BookBird sculptures for St. Louis Central Library's Children's Room, and for the corridor leading into it. Flocks of sculptures are hung overhead, above the lighting fixtures.

I chose pairs of images for their colors, textures and visual puns. The bottom one shown above pairs an aerial view of rice paddies (blue and green on the left side) with an extreme close up of a Monarch butterfly wing.
